Hole 1

Men's Handicap: 15
Women's Handicap: 11

Hole   1
Par   4
A short downhill par 4, the first at Cherry Hill is a classic opening hole in the sense that it is not particularly difficult and is very pleasing to the eye. Looking north from the tee, one can see the distant towers of Niagara Falls on a clear day. Two bunkers guard the right side of the fairway and a magnificent oak tree, dating back to the early 1700´s, dominates the scene just short of the green on the left. The green has bunkers left and right at the front and it slopes from back to front. A putt from the front of the green toward the back will break to the right, or toward the Niagara River, a fact that is true of many of the greens at Cherry Hill. Raymond Floyd was aware of this fact, and several times in the course of play, was heard to ask his caddie, “Where´s the river?”
